The Environmental Division contributed considerable time and resources working with KitIA and KivIA to deal with Tahera’s Jericho Diamond Project, Miramar’s Doris North Gold Project and Cumberland’s Meadowbank Gold Project. All of these projects are fully or partially located on Inuit Owned Lands. The division worked closely with KitIA to conduct technical environmental reviews and submit oral and written submissions to NWB regarding Tahera Diamond Corporation’s water license application. The division also worked with KitIA and KivIA to conduct technical environmental reviews and submit oral and written submissions to NIRB for the Doris North and Meadowbank Gold projects.

The division also applied for and received $71,000 of DIAND funding to develop reclamation guidelines for Inuit Owned Lands. Workshops and meetings were held with the RIAs, and Jacques Whitford Environmental was retained to develop the guidelines. We are committed to finalizing a Reclamation Policy and Guidelines for Inuit Owned Lands in the coming year.
