The Lands Division committed considerable time and resources to participate in the development of federal legislation to govern NPC and NIRB. These meetings are ongoing and first drafts of the legisla- tion should be completed in the coming year. The Lands Division received $475,000 in DIAND funding to accelerate the 1/50,000 scale mapping of Nunavut.

NTI partnered with DIAND and Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) to improve the base mapping of Nunavut. We hope to see this project completed in the next four years. The division also received $9,000 from DIAND to improve the Landsat 7 satellite coverage of Nunavut.

The Lands Division also digitized, verified, and arranged execution of several hundred NRCan surveys for Inuit Owned Lands and sent them to the land titles office. This work is very important as it commits NTI and the RIAs to boundaries of 1,500 Inuit Owned Lands parcels.
